Worth Killing Trees For – Art Magazines
Below are the art magazines that I subscribe to and read. While most of my reading is currently digital, these magazines are either not available digitally, or their production quality is so good that I just enjoy them more in print. Considered one of the best art magazines, International Artist is my favorite. It…

Sketchbook – 30-APR-2011
Some sketches from figure drawing this weekend. Life kept me from the easel for the past couple of weeks so it felt great to stretch the eye muscles again. My favorite part of this pose was the tension on his back foot. I think I would have been satisfied if I just drew that foot.…

Sketchbook – 16-MAR-2011
I took a break during a rainy day today at lunch to do some sketching. This is a page of random sketches at 5th Street Public Market. Restaurants are always a great place to do spontaneous portraits of people. I also always seem to get caught up in the space, the wiring hanging from the ceiling…

Cross-hatching or mono-directional lines flatten a drawing. I’ve been experimenting with both. Flat tones make for a stronger graphic image, but I really like the sculpted form of a drawing. I’ve…

Undressed Art
I read…a lot. Particularly books about art. However, every so often I read a book that is so good that it makes me glad that I am literate. It so good that I am thankful I know how to read. Because by being able to read I have been access to so much life-enhancing knowledge.…

Digital figure drawing
Below are some of my latest experiments. I took my iPad to my weekly figure drawing session. I’ve really wanted to experiment with figure painting, but the sessions are much too short for that. So, I figured I would play with drawing on the iPad. What is most interesting to me is how foreign it…
